I lost my sweater somewhere in London. Cape Town is right on the water and I’m freezing my tukas off. Where does one go when one needs a sweater or jacket and has little money? The thrift store, of course! I found two shops I want to check out:
Salvation Army | Gift and Thrift Shop
Clothes donated to the Salvation Army will go to a trustworthy cause that works to eliminate poverty. The Gift and Thrift Shop (+27 (0)21 686 8328) is open from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings. Bring donations directly to the shop.

Bargain Box is the last stop; unfortunately you need to travel to Somerset West to get there. Bargain Box is a charity shop where the public can drop off second hand clothes. Like Pandora’s Box, you need to do a lot of digging through the racks, but sometimes you get lucky and find a great Woolworths pencil skirt for only R15 (you may need to shorten it). With Bargain Box, it’s all about luck, but they have some great vintage belts for only R1. They also have great things for men such as ties and vintage blazers. If you are ever in the Somerset West area, pop by and it might be your lucky day. The great thing is that you are shopping for a good cause.
Best for: Vintage sling bags and belts
Trading Hours: Wednesday 14h00 to 17h00, Thursday 12h00 to 16h00, Friday 12h00 to 14h00 and Saturday 9h00 to 12h00
Where: Dirkie Uys Street, Somerset West
